Message: | Thanks for trying again. This is most curious as it seems in some parts that two postmarks have been overlaid (the B and T appear overlaid for example). The '1-2N' at the bottom is certainly typical of an afternoon (N=Nachmittag) time interval in a single circle German postmark type of the late 19th century/early 20th century but then one would usually expect to see the time interval flanked by two stars. I can see two stars but they are displaced from the time interval. The date figures arrangement is also typical of this type of German cancel but this appears to read 4 7 11 which surely is much too late for this issue of North Borneo stamp. I don't think the place name is Brotzen which is too short a word and I don't know of such a place anyway. The final N is too close to the N of the time interval. Also in relation to the 1-2N I would have expected the first letter of the place name to have been placed before the clearly visible BR and there is a line before the B possibly an I. Then of course there is the question of why there should be a German postmark on a British North Borneo stamp anyway unless it is a paquebot usuage. The nearest German interests I think would have been German New Guinea and the place name does not seem to fit any of the German post offices in operation there. Sorry I can't pin this down Giles du Boulay | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
