Message: | I checked the German language Wikipedia for this town at http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwekatowo. It lies in what was West Prussia, on the rail line between the former Bromberg and Gdynia. It is listed in the Deutsche Postorte that Ben Beede cited, as having a post office (Post Expedition II) opened in 1864. The non-German-sounding name is likely of West Slavic language origin, but the -ow suffix, corresponding to the German -au (referring to a water body), is more common. (See the English language Wikipedia under "German toponymy".) I am also a new G&CPS member. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
