My advice would be to begin collecting and studying the one area prior to expanding. I would also advise obtaining all and any Literature pertaining to the area, before laying out any money. Another suggestion would be to visit stamp shows where exhibits are, this is a further source of information and would also put you in touch which like-minded collectors. Many of whom are likely to have duplicates they will wish to sell.
Becoming a member as well of the German Arge Deutsche Kolonien would not go awry, although you may struggle with the language, many here can assist. (Some 12 plus members of the GCPS speak fluent German)
