Firstly I must apologise to Alec and Giles for not thanking them for their repies to my earlier queries. I have started to delve into postmarks on my Brutschilde stamps, trying to differentiate between Altstempel, NDP and UGS. I have a copy of Peter Feuser's monumental work which is a great help but does he list every Altstempel? The reason I am asking is that I have a copy of Mi. Nr.1 which has a partial pm. reading ALTEN then maybe an A all in antiqe script; it is in a single circle (large diameter) the date is also in antique form, the day and the month being seperated by a line: the only post office I can think of is Altenahr as it seems to be 8 letters long but Feuser shows it as a boxzd cancellation.
Then some simple? queries. I have two Berlin PMs.
One is ST.P.A. Is it a letter box posting?
One is H.P.A. Is it posted at the Royal Palace?
Then one the first letter of the name is an H probably Hamburg with the letters Brief P.A.
and lastly a follow up from the reply by Alec
re the leipzig K.P.A.III is this from a third class official letter.
I have the Feuser book the first two volumes of th Michel Stempel-Handbuch and the listing of the NDP PMs. Can anyone suggest other reference books that might help?
Sorry for my verbosity! Regards Norman |
