Message: | Hello Jeff I don't have the Scott catalogue nor do I have any special knowledge of Brunswick stamps but in case it helps you here are the translated descriptions of the colours of the 1852 unwatermarked (Mi. 3)and the 1862 watermarked 3Sgr (Mi. 12A as against Scott 11) from the Michel Deutschland Spezial Katalog: Mi.3: (bright) orange-red (shades) & Mi. 12A (imperf): a) medium to bright lilac-red [rose] b)bright carmine [carmine]. Michel also notes that the 1852 issue is on yellowish to white paper with brown to reddish gum whereas the 1862 stamp is on white paper. I'm not quite clear also from the Michel descriptions whether it is saying that there are differences in the lettering and arms design between the two stamps, but you will surely know this. You didn't mention whether your stamp is mint or used which I imagine might make a difference in the way its colour has been preserved over 150+ years (let alone many other factors affecting its condition). Given the range of colour shades noted over both issues and the potential value of the stamp you may wish to consider having it expertised. Regards Giles. | ||||||||||||||||
