| Message: | Dear Peter What I do first is to use OCR software to scan the German text and turn it into editable text in Word. There are free OCR packages on the internet and some of them may have the option of setting the OCR to read German in particular. Depending on how good the OCR software is one usually needs to correct parts of the editable text especially where it was difficult to lay the book absolutely flat on the scanner or otherwise photo it. I then copy and paste chunks (say about ½ page at a time) of the text into the free version of DeepL translator which works just like Google translate but is miles better. I then copy and paste the translated text into a new Word document gradually adding to it to complete the work.The free version of DeepL rations one into how much translation it will do in any one session so it's best to spread the work over a few days.
