Message: | William, your card is one of a series of letter cards (Kartenbrief) produced to private order using remainder stock from first world war Feldpostbrief cards (Army or Navy or Bavarian Army). In the Michel catalogue these have the PK prefix (yours being PK11). PK11/E1 is based on the Field Army version and E2 is the Navy version (the back of the card will show which). The bracketed number in the bottom left corner (3.15) is the month and year the original was printed. The stamps were normally imprinted at the same time. Normally the colour of bar used over ‘Feldpostbrief’ when there was more than one imprinted stamp would match the colour of the right most stamp (there are exceptions of course!) PK11 was used for local (Ortsbrief) 06.05.1920 to 31.12.1921 and for inland distance (Fernbrief) from 06.05.1920 to 31.03.1921. It could also be used after this or for other purposes with appropriate additional franking. Kind Regards Brian | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
