Message: | It is a bit unusual to reuse a postcard in this way (perhaps philatelically inspired), compared to say the thrifty reuse of an envelope with its previous franking on, but as long as the correct Austrian postage was paid I can see no reason why it should not have been accepted by the Austrian postal service. The DDR stamp is surely an example of the fairly long running definitive Mi. 846 first issued in 1961 and it seems to me that its postmark is in fact dated 1967 and perhaps therefore only shortly before the Austrian postmark. 10Pf paid the DDR inland postcard rate at the time so one might speculate that the first addressee simply replied to it on the card itself but from Austria, maybe on holiday, rather than from Germany. Interesting. Best wishes Giles | ||||||||||||||||||||
