Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: Ben, thank you for your thoughts but I fear it would be unlikely that many members would respond to such questions and I’m unsure how useful the information would be anyway if only provided by a few. In my experience members who have built up specialist knowledge in particular areas and who are willing to share it with others (this would surely be the main point of compiling such information centrally) tend to make themselves known of their own volition anyway. These are usually the active members who give displays, write articles, respond to enquiries, volunteer for Society positions, and join in Society activities. Even I as a long-time specialist collector of, researcher, and writer about, ‘all things Danzig’ (philatelic and historical) find it difficult to define my ‘philatelic goals’ as succinctly as you have managed to do, not least because they have changed over time and probably will continue to do so. I think Craig’s view would be representative of those of many members who simply enjoy building their stamp collections. Best wishes, Giles.
