Glad to help. I cannot put my hand on a reference at the moment, but I believe a book called Auslandpost 1946-1951 by Walter Farber and Juergen Spilker might have help you. Although your items are domestic, the book should discuss the language requirement. Professor Farber was and, I suppose is, interested, particularly in the addition of missing address information by the postal authorities to keep mail moving, despite the senders' errors. I have a copy of book, but I may not be able to locate it right away. If you are interested in early post-World War II German postal history, you would doubtless find the book worth purchasing. Philabooks might have a copy available. If not, I think the study group in Germany that published the book would have a copy for sale. Let me know how you make out.
Best wishes, Ben |
