The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).
The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.
The word 'German' was overprinted on AM stamps ostensibly for the use of journalists at the Nuremburg Trials. However I have a number of stampless Gebuhr Bezahlt envelopes which bear the word 'German' in normal handwriting. I also have a postcard (Von Stephan)with 'German' overprinted on the stamp in block capitals. None of these seem to involve the trials nor do they involve journalists, being in the main domestic. Can anyone enlighten me why postal stationary bore this piece of information? Was it postwar regulations?
