Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: Dear John, don't be put off from collecting postal history. You have rather thrown yourself in at the deep end with your Katz example of early Prussian official mail. Deciphering old German handwriting can be quite a challenge even for experienced postal historians. There are so many ways of enhancing and growing one's interest in German philately through postal history which do not necessarily require proficiency in the German language or a deep pocket. Some collectors concentrate on a single historical event, or specific period, or specific postmark or type of mail, perhaps a study of how specific stamp issues relate to available postal services etc. Much can be achieved at moderate cost with just a catalogue (in English) and an enquiring mind! Happy collecting, Giles.
