at the end of the '70's and into the '80's the expertising practices were overhauled and placed on a firmer footing with regard to up to date research. This has meant there are a lot of stamps around bearing expertising marks which are quite genuine, however many will not hold up to scrutiny under the newer rules based on the latest research. In particular Germania stamp shades expertised prior to 1978 will require resubmitting. (Some shades have been delisted in Michel for a number of years now). Work on the cancellations on the inflation issues continues apace. A list of forged expertisers marks is on the internet.

The above link is a good start.
http://www.bdph.de is another site well worth the effort. You will also find a link to the Blum forged marks here.
Ampost beware of forged cancellations on the higher values. Also re-perfing of values.
Kontrollrat, again many of the higher catalogued issues bear forged cancellations.
And the modern collector can no longer pursue the hobby without being beset by forged cancellations. Notably ESSEN zz and PRESSECK zz
Generally found on horizontal pairs from sheets. The Heuss issue in particular should be scrutinised before purchase.
Also the canceller from the Post office at EDEMISSEN (near Hanover) has been misused. Again found on horizontal pairs from sheets, and also found cancelling Berlin issues, notably the stamps from the Famous German Women series are affected.
Overall the English speaking areas have become a dumping ground for that which is unsaleable in Germany. So when a dealer tells you he purchases his stock in Germany DO NOT BUY IN BLIND GOOD FAITH!!
