Message: | I have to respond further about your other inquiry. What happened, apparently, with the Danzig overprints of 1939, was that there were two printings, one carried out in Danzig and one in Berlin at the Reichsdruckerei. Wartime editions of Michel state that overprints were made at either of those locations. Given the fact that current editions of Michel mention two printings, it seems likely that the Danzig printing was done in Danzig to accomodate ordinary postal needs and the Berlin printing was done to satisfy collectors after it had been decided to offer the stamps in all of Germany, not simply in the territory of the former free city.
