Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: What follows is not much help, but it may interest you. Karl Sautter, Geschichte der Deutschen Post: Teil 2 Geschichte der Norddeutschen Bundespost (1952 reprint), p. 83, notes the provision of the free franking privilege for French prisoners in Germany, stating that this was an unusually generous measure at the time. He also states that mail from France to these French prisoners of war had to be paid at inland rates, but he did not specify French or German rates, although I suspect the latter. However, needy prisoners of war were not required to pay postage due on unfranked or insufficiently paid mail from France. I shall think about other possible sources. Best wishes, Ben
