The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: Hi Michael, It's about locality rather than distance. The Ortsverkehr rate was for local mail, i.e. mail delivery within the municipal area of a single town/city. However, in some cases, mail sent between neighbouring municipalities benefited from the Ortsverkehr rate due to the practicalities of how the nearby subordinate post offices were managed (they might be in neighbouring municipalities but the same OPD/RPD) or geographical considerations (e.g. being on the same bank of a river). So in Hamburg or Berlin, the Ortsverjenr rate would carry mail a much greater distance than it would in smaller municipalities like Aachen.
