Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: I recently purchased Generalgouvernement stamps SG469-471. (Hitler's 55th Birthday issue of 20.4.1944). All other Hitler portrait stamps I have seen show him trying to look noble and dignified, in the best Wagnerian fashion. But oh, what a difference with these - straggly hair all over the place, bags under the eyes, etc. Mind you, probably a true reflection of how he looked by 1944. It would be interesting to know (a) who designed the portrait and (b) if it was personally approved by the Fuehrer, especially given the fact that they were issued in Poland alone. Can anyone shed any further light on this? Allan
