The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).
The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.
I am wondering if anyone can help me with two different things.
I recently aquired a large accumalation of german colonies, over prints and Danzig. In the stamps I found 2 copies of a stamp from german New Guinea.
The stamp is the same size as the 1M-5M stamps 1900 - 1920's. It has a format similar to the high values of all the colonies with the boat slight more bow on. This central oval is in a light ocre orange colour. The rest of the stamp is Black with a black and white Banner with Deutsch nue guinea (wording split). the lower half has where the value would be 2 black rosettes and in the left corner a Black and white imperial flag at half mast. Is this a propaganda stamp or something akin to this? I would love to hear from someone about what its history is. I can forward a photo of the stamp to anyone if that helps.
The second stamp is a Reichspost 3ct Germania no over print but stamped with Dar es salam cancelation. I can find no reference to this having been done in German East Africa. Was this unusual?
My thanks
Roger
