However, from your observation re : “ ... the apparently differing shades of the 10 Pf red ...”, it seems that I was not clear in explaining that the right hand 10 Pf is not a real stamp but rather an imprint used on prepaid envelopes. While prepaid envelopes are common today, I was unaware they were in use by Germany in the 1890’s and , if they were, I have never seen one hence my seeking advice, particularly on their scarcity & value. I think you are correct that it is not a mourning cover as I doubt that the etiquette of the day would allow for prepaid mourning envelopes. However, I am not as sure it is a philatelic cover as the poorly struck central postmark would not please the recipient. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
