Message: | Dear Mr Tollan In essence the cards 'work' as follows: on taking a parcel to the post office the sender writes out a parcel card onto which the stamps are affixed and cancelled. Gummed labels with identical numbers are affixed to both card and parcel. The recipient has to sign the card as a receipt which is retained by the post office. There have been several explanations of the system in the Society's journal 'Germania' over the years. The most recent article dealt specifically with the earlier 'parcel advice letters' (Paketbegleitbriefe)1864-1913. I have stock currently of the back issue containing that latter article, which I can supply at £2.00 incl. UK p&p. The earlier articles and other information should be available to UK members through the Society's library, and from discussion with other members. Do please contact me direct by e-mail should you wish to follow any of these leads up. Regards Giles du Boulay Chairman, Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
