Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: Taking the Weimar period frfom 1919 to 1933. From 1919 to 1923 there is a problem with fraudulent and fake cancellations, particularly with high cat. values. From 1924 onwards there is less of a problem. But beware of the Coats of Arms series, here a German opera singer Peter Winter produced forgeries, most are actually marked 'faux' but unscrupulous vendors have been known to remove this. The definitive sets of the period 24-33 can generally be collected without much problem (Ebert/Hindenburg; Famous Germans; Hindenburg). With regard to fraudulent cancellation there are some books you may care to purchase, produced by Infla-Berlin these are available to non-members, a great knowledge of German is not required as these are merely lists of known fake and fraudulent cancellations. Sadly the area of fake and fakery is not one that has been taken all too seriously in Germania, leaving it to the existing publications from Germany, regards Nigel
