Dear Russell
Thanks for the further explanation. I understand your dilemma. It does seem contradictory to me that a stamp exhibiting all the characteristics of a 'wartime printing' should still be classified, and expertised, as a 'peace printing.
You may already be a member of the Arge Germania Marken - but if not their website www.germania-marken.de may be of help, or provide a knowledgeable contact. I noted on their literature page a reference to the pre-war (WW2) Kohl handbook, (the 11th and I believe last edition). If you haven't got a copy of that it should be well worth getting. I have a photocopy of the Danzig section which, unfortunately, only goes up to 1924 - many of the details given by Munk (who wrote the handbook) were not reproduced in the later Michel. I am sure you will find a copy by Googling around (say Vera Trinder or ABE Books) but check that you are getting the right volume as the cpomplete handbooks covered many areas over a number of vols.
I'd be interested to know in due course if you dicover the answer !
Best wishes
