Hi everyone. I recently picked up a few DDR covers for my 'Philatelic Mail' collection from a local stmap fair, and would like to find out some information on how philately, and exchanges of stamps, were organised in the old DDR.
Specifically, in relation to the image:
The 1956 cover to Zurich (a) has a black/green/white numbered label marked 'Tauschsendung' ('exchange sending'?) and 'ZKPH', which I presume stands for 'Zentrale Kommission Philatelie' as that was the wording on a cachet on the back (b). Was this an organisation set up to regulate stamp exchanges with non-Communist countries, and how did it work?
Another cover has a little label (c) which I understand is a 'philatelic cover, cancel carefully' instruction. I'd like to know a bit more about the dates of use etc of these.
On the back of the same cover was another label (d) referring to an international exhibition in Leipzig -- any information on this exhibition would be welcome! |
