Can anyone please explain the handwritten note on this postcard? It reads 'Durch Dienstmarke verrechnet' with signature and date and (in red, at the top) '4 M[illionen]'. This by my book translates as something like 'accounted for by means of an official [postage] stamp', but in that case where is the Dienstmarke, why isn't it on the card? Such a wording is not mentioned in my Michel, where the nearest is 'laut Einnahme-Nachweis verrechnet' indicating that the amount charged has been entered in a receipt book. Any suggestions gratefully welcomed. |
