Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: The Germany Philatelic Society in the United States recently published a 40-page synopsis of German postal history related to the Volkswagen. This article was condensed from Daniel C. Olsen's 128-page exhibit, "Volkswagen Chronicle." While I was preparing the feature, I asked Olsen what he was looking for to complete his Volkswagen exhibit and collection. “What I have been chasing for a half-dozen years,” he told me, “is some postal item from the period when the British Army was in charge of the Wolfsburg plant. “Right up until his untimely death [in April 2000], I exchanged letters with Major Ivan Hirst, who ran the plant [in the initial postwar occupation period]. He was an extraordinary man — modest enough not to want to be considered extraordinary — but he knew of none of his contemporaries who might be able to help me. “I exchanged letters with the editor of the journal for the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and even advertised — also with no result. However, the library at the Volkswagen Museum did supply me with the addresses that were used during this period just after the war. They are as follows: Wolfsburg Motor Works P.CON.BR.HQ.FIN.DIV.229HQ Housign BR.HQ.MIL.GOV. and O i/c Det. 30 W.C.U. R.E.M.E., Wolfsburg Motor Works. “Naturally I am also interested in any mail from Stadt des KdF-Wagens — as well as Wolfsburg." If you have any information to share, please contact Daniel Olsen, P. O. Box 9168, Naples FL 34101-9168, or get in touch with him by e-mail at olsenaples@naples.net
