The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).
The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.
This study group is currently being set up.
Initially two areas have been identified as requiring research;
pre-philatelic period from ////-1859. The routes taken by the mail. It is known that these varied due to war and changing political alliances.
very little has been documented.
secondly a study is being undertaken to confirm the commoness or rarity of the heligoland cancels on the stamps. Hamburg and British issues 1859-1890.
All research will be published in english and german.
This study group involves both german and british philatelists.
Interested! Contact me at the email address.
The study group will not be expertising material.
Although opinions can be sought. If you ask for an opinion please do not be upset if told you own a forgery and it's not worth what you paid for it.
I look forward to hearing from interested parties.
