Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: I can give you citations to several German-language sources that would be highly informative, but I do not know whether you are familiar with German and whether you have access to major libraries. The Kohl Handbuch would be a good source, for example. The German Postal Specialist has some articles about official stamps. I wrote one that might help you, but I cannot put my hand on it easily. If you check the German Postal Specialist index, which is online, skip the article by David Straight. He contributed much to philately, but he was not familiar with the subject of official stamps. One point to keep in mind is that official stamps had nothing to do with free franking. Overall, official stamp is a complex subject. Ben Beede
