The description given is ambiguous but I don’t think it is meant to imply that there is a listed variety with gum on both sides which your stamp is a faked attempt at reproducing. Rather I think the opinion is given that the stamp is simply an attempt to create the impression of it being a new variety by the addition of gum to the front of the stamp. The application of a wash of gum to mounted mint stamps to pass them off as often considerably more valuable unmounted mint stamps is usually easily detectable under microscopy. The gum composition may clearly be a poor match for the genuine article, or be applied unevenly or too thickly, and residues can often be seen around the perforations, also stiffening the paper. The forger may here have applied gum to the front of the stamp as well as to the back, or to the front only, again leaving the above-mentioned tell-tale signs. If you submit the stamp to a BPP accredited expertiser and it is similarly found to be faked it will be marked as such. |
