Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: Because I came across a fistful of similar adhesives some years ago with the same little logotype on them, I recognize your "mystery stamp" as one of what were apparently a fairly substantial number of labels produced by the German-Soviet Friendship Society. These were intended to promote good old Socialist solidarity, chiefly during the 1960s and 1970s, I believe. Here is a current (as of November 2003) eBay Germany listing for a little "album" of such adhesives: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2967175580&category=7860 For whatever reason...perhaps sheer historical embarrassment...these items do not seem to be widely collected or much pursued these days, despite the relatively enormous enthusiasm that so many German collectors seem to have for so many other kinds of Cinderellas --- locals, poster stamps, municipal fiscals and the like. If I were a betting man (and I'm not), I would expect that these will one day be highly sought-after German cinderellas. Hindsight may be 20/20, but nostalgia --- or "Ostalgie," as a fondness for the dearly departed DDR is referred to in Germany today --- is blind and drunken!
