Message: | The postage due charge in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic in May 1948 was one and half times the omitted postal payment. Source: Renny Horst Hagel, "Die Deutsche Nachgebuehr 1945-1990," Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft im Bund Deutscher Philatelisten Mitteilungensblatt Nr. 2 (September 1992): 10-29. Hagel stated he did not know what the postage due rate was in the French Zone from November 20, 1947, to October 1, 1948. Hagel made an earlier, book-length study of postage due in Germany from 1871 to 1945, by the way. Ben Beede | ||||||||||||||||||||
