The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: Dear Bill There are question marks about the distribution of the four DANZIG KRANTOR special handstamps with code letters a-d. Even the Wolff catalogue (which is the bible for Danzig cancels) does not identify where each was used. Wolff records their dates of use as: for code a – 1.11.43 – 9.11.44; b – 2.11.43 – 21.3.45; c – 3.11.43 – 25.12.44; and d – 3.11.43 – 16.3.45 (this one developed a gap in the outer ring by the G of DANZIG from 27.12.43). There would surely have been no need for four of the handstamps at the main PO (Danzig 1) so they must have been used at different POs. You ask about Danzig 5 – this was the PO at the main railway station. Practically all mail going out of Danzig was routed through there first whether or not the mail was to go by train. If you can send me a scan of the inked out ‘B’ you refer to I may be able to comment. Cheers, Giles.
