Message: | Hello Geoff - The P.R.1erR. does indeed stand for Prusse 1er Rayon - applied at the Prussian border. In 1853 the Rayon system had been reorganised such that there were only three Rayons, rather than the former five for rating mail from Prussia to France. Thus one also finds P.R.2erR. & P.R.3erR. There are variants of all there marks with different spacings, full stop inclusions, boxed, unboxed, typeface etc. Best wishes Giles | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
