Message: Norman, the Infla-Berlin small circle expertisers mark is usually given to single stamps that can positively be identified as having genuine cancels. The same mark is used to denote genuine cancels on piece. The rectangular or square mark is usually used when a single stamps full cancel can not be read but when read as part of a multiple it is clear to the expertizer that the item is genuine. Band 62 from the Arge Infla-Berlin is an excellent reference book giving a lot of information all about the subject of expertisers and their various signatures. If interested in seriously studying any aspect of the inflation period I would highly recommend joining this specialist study group.
