Message: Sir, collecting German colonies is a vast field full of dangers where fakes constitute a significant risk to the novice collector. DSWA as a field is highly interesting with many events such as the Herero War and other tribal uprisings giving rise to many provisional items. I welcome that you are seeking advice and I am willing to give more in depth analysis, just a few facts. South West Africa had most cancels with also most of the outstanding colonial rarities, hence postal history at least at the top end of the market can be very pricey. This should not deter, quite the opposite, with DSWA being one of the largest territories, there is also much material around and some progess in terms of forming a collection can easily be made. Beware though of over priced common items. I can also point to some literature, which may help with fact finding. I will be happy to have a telephone conversation with you about the subject if you email me your number. Best regards Heinrich Wasels
