The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).
The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.
I understand this is not strictly Germany and Colonies related but I’d be grateful for any info on the attached card. I know nothing about the card and cannot read Russian, but I was told it’s a ‘Russian Field Service’ Postcard. It was sent by a woman to her family in Ireland. The text on the reverse of the card which was dated 31st July 1917 reads:
“Mother darling just a line to let you know that I am safe and well but as we had to leave Charkov ( Kharkov) I had no time to write. We are now in Proskurov only we don't know for how long. It was disgusting having to leave and in such a way. Sometime I will tell you all about it. Here is the chief base of the British division and I have met a lot of English soldiers. I had a long talk with them. In Charkov the last days I also saw a lot of them and met an English nurse whom I was able to help a little. Our plans are quite uncertain. Today we don't know where we will be tomorrow. I will send you a card often to let you know I am safe and well so don't be. Al??……..Tons of love and kisses Prue?”
The division referred to is the ‘RNAS/British Armoured Car Division which was assisting Russian Imperial Forces and their successors in the Ukraine? Some questions I have:
Is it a Field Service Postcard?
What does the ‘Red Cross’ Cachet say?
What does the 32 in the box indicate?
I have some additional information on the Division and Prudence if anyone is interested.
