The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).
The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.
I have a number of covers like the one in the image that were sent from German Austria in 1921 to Germany that were opened on receipt in Germany by censors under section 1324 of the Ordnance on Postal and Telegram monitoring dated 15 November 1918. This section refers to 'necessary for reasons of public interest for economic reasons' and seems to specifically exclude military, political or surveillance reasons. Does anyone know of any particular reason why incoming mail from German-Austria might have been opened at this time under this Ordnance?
