The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).
The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.
I've just bought a collection which has the following stamp in it (it's large 50x58mm). I assumed it was a fiscal or poster stamp but on closer investigation it appears to have been issued by a bank (see inscription) to pay for the transit and insurance for the transit of goods on the converted sub Deutschland for it's cargo trips to New York. Anyone know anything about this stamp?
