Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: I recently found a 1866 Braunsweig cover in a box I bought which had a 3g stamp, sent within the state, but which appears to have been taxed. Given that this was the highest denomination stamp, the cover was sent within the state, and the envelope was small, I'd be interested to know what the postal rates were at the time to lead to the letter being taxed. I attach a photo showing the relevant detail.
