I recently found a 1866 Braunsweig cover in a box I bought which had a 3g stamp, sent within the state, but which appears to have been taxed. Given that this was the highest denomination stamp, the cover was sent within the state, and the envelope was small, I'd be interested to know what the postal rates were at the time to lead to the letter being taxed. I attach a photo showing the relevant detail. |
