The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: Hello, This handstamp reads: werk beschlagnahmt arbeiten ausschliesslich fuer Wehrmacht (sorry, I have tried and tried, but I cannot seem to upload the image), which I translate as 'factory seized to work exclusively for the Wehrmacht' is applied on a Greek commercial cover to Germany in 1943. The Greek factory is the 'industrie hellénique de piles électriques' (producing electric batteries (I think). My question is, where would this handstamp have been applied? Does it refer to the Greek factory (which I assume) or the German company (Firma C. Conradty, Nurnberg)? Also, I assume it was applied for the benefit of the company in Nurnberg. Am I correct? Finally, is the use of this handstamp a common practice? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you. Adrian
