Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society
The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

Message: I am trying to work out the significance of one of my covers, sent Feldpost to the writer's wife in Bilthoven, Holland from ‘Prof. Hirsch, 34157’ [a number which I found somewhere linked to the Waffen-SS]. It bears a Feldpost postmark dated 2.9.42 and a unit cachet ‘Stabskompanie Dienststelle Feldpostnr. 35189A'. The cover has been censored in the normal way in Cologne. What sort of unit would a Dutch[?] professor without rank [and with a name that is usually Jewish!] be working in? The writing doesn't look German to me. any suggestions or info much appreciated. Philip
