The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).
The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.
I have a cover sent from Danzig to "British" occupied Windhuk, SW Africa in Oct. 1916. It has been forwarded by the International Peace Bureau in Bern. It is stamped "Via Cape Town" (under the censor label) and "Bureau International de la Paix" and franked with a Swiss stamp. The sender's address in Danzig can be made out on the back under the censor label at the back. There is also an oval TPO type cancel on the back (blank)-WINDHOEK 20.11.16.
I have two queries: (1) What were the postal arrangements which applied to the forwarding of such mail between belligerent powers in WW1 by the International Peace Bureau ?
and (2) What route would the letter have taken from Bern to Cape Town ?
Thanks
Giles
